About the circuit

The Baku City Circuit is one of the most distinctive tracks on the Formula 1 calendar, combining ultra-fast straights, tight technical corners, and a dramatic setting through the streets of Azerbaijan’s capital. As a temporary street circuit, it features a mix of modern cityscape and historic architecture, making it a visually stunning and unpredictable venue.

Designed by renowned circuit architect Hermann Tilke, the track is 6.003 km (3.73 miles) long and features 20 corners, weaving through Baku’s city centre along the Caspian Sea waterfront. One of its most famous sections is the ultra-narrow passage through the Icheri Sheher (Old City) walls, where drivers must navigate tight turns with almost no margin for error.

Baku is also known for having one of the longest straights in F1, stretching over 2.2 km, allowing cars to reach speeds of over 350 km/h, making it one of the fastest street circuits in the sport. This combination of high-speed sections and technical corners creates unpredictable races, often leading to dramatic moments, safety cars, and thrilling overtakes.
